T-shirt Design Competition

Line drawing of a caravan

To enter the competition you will need to create a design that will work well when screenprinted onto the T-shirts and Hoodies.

To screenprint a design it needs to have clean lines so the design can’t be too complex or it won’t work. This means it must be in black and white with no grey scale or shaded areas.

If you look at the photo on the left you will see that every part of the design is either black or white, there is nothing in between.

You can create your design on paper or by using a tablet or computer. If you draw your design on paper you will need to find a way to get it uploaded to a tablet or computer so that it can be emailed to us. You could take a photo of it using a tablet or camera phone or you could use a scanner.

If drawing on paper it is a good idea to use a black pen or felt tip to get your lines nice and crisp. This will make it easier to edit once you upload it to your computer (I’ll stop adding ‘or tablet’ from now on, but take it that it means any type of digital editing device).

To get the nice crisp lines needed for screenprinting, the design needs to be a vector file. You can submit a vector file for your entry if you want to, but if you are not able to you can send in your design as a png or jpg.

If you are not sending in a vector, just make sure your lines are as crisp as possible. If there is any shading or grey areas we won’t be able to convert it for you and so your entry won’t be accepted.

If you’d like to have a go at creating a vector please follow the info below.

The difference between a vector and a raster image.

Raster images are made up of pixels where each pixel is a different colour and 1000s of pixels combine together to create an image.

If you zoom in to a digital image on your computer you will see the pixels do not actually create a perfect circle, they have a jagged edge because a pixel is square.

A vector image doesn’t have pixels, it has paths. This allows the image to be blown up to any size because it won’t become pixelated.

There are lots of free converters online that can turn your raster image into a vector. Some are better than others, but you can have a play around with them and see if you like how it looks.

If you have any graphic editing software like Affinity Design you can export your design as an SVG file. SVG is a type of vector.

The website https://www.freeconvert.com/vector-converter is really easy to use. Simply upload your design, choose SVG as the output and click convert. Once your file is ready you can download it and email it to us.

This quick video shows how easy it is to convert your design to an SVG. At the end you will see the difference between a vector and a raster file.

Competition rules:

Designs must be black and white, as we only print in one colour. The format can be PNG, JPG, SVG, EPS or PDF.

The closing date is 23:59 30th of April 2024.

Please send your designs to  before the deadline or they may not be entered.

The T-shirts will be white with black vinyl designs and the hoodies will be black with white vinyl designs. Both will be available in adult and child unisex sizes.

Please note that due to production issues we may need to simplify or stylise the design we choose.
