Team HEFF
Board of directors
HEFF is run by a volunteer board of directors who oversee the organisation of events and a large community of volunteers.
Ian Anderson
Director
I am one of the Directors of Home Education Festivals, the company which runs HEFF, and most of the time act as chair for board meetings. At events I am the person responsible for coordinating everything to do with the site and infrastructure, and as such also for Health and Safety.
Michel Drescher
Company Secretary
Brynn Hauxwell
Youth Director
I want to help make the HEFF experience even better than it already is. My main role is being a voice for the young people at HEFF and helping to run the Festival.
Ed Bowden
Director
Hi, I’m Ed and I’ve volunteered as a director for quite a few years now. I work in IT so for HEFF I manage the technical side of the website, shop, emails and other tools but as with most people on the board I get involved in pretty much everything else as well.
Ally Mac
Director & Safeguarding Officer
I’m Ally I’ve been a director since 2022. Like all the directors I am involved across a lot of areas.
My main roles just now are working with our new key volunteers, bookings and offering more opportunities for our teens and young adults to get involved in the festival.
As an ex youth worker I am passionate getting young people more involved in the running in the festival.
Chloe Newby
Director
As a director, festival and financial planning are the biggest part, along with all the other directors. The more particular bits I organise are policy drafting and updates, the feedback questions and analysis after each festival, and the physical paperwork.
Nicky Merrick
Director - PR & Marketing
I take care of the social media and email marketing for HEFF and designed the website. I have been coming to HEFF with my husband Chunky and our son Zed since 2017.
Key volunteers
As well as the board there is a team of volunteers including various coordinators and our wonderful event crew.
Ian Thursfield
Crew Coordinator
Hi there, I’m Ian T and I’m your volunteer co-ordinator and helping to co-ordinate workshops for HEFF.
That means if you volunteer (which is awesome to do btw) I will help you have an awesome time, while you give back to the festival (and also get cheaper tickets).
If you’re interested in joining Team HEFF please visit our volunteering page here.
Oh and if you love Eurovision, Ultimate Frisbee and/or Frozen then we can chat about those topics for hours!
Bridget McGill
Photographer
Bridget can normally be found behind the camera rather than in front of it, but we managed to find this photo so you can see who she is. Bridget took just about all of the photos used on this website. You’ll find her cycling all over the festival taking photographs of the activities.
Sonja Whitehead
Workshop Coordinator
I help to organise the workshops at HEFF. It’s a big job but making sure we have a varied and interesting choice of things to do at the festival is fun and rewarding.
Julie Tant
First Aid Coordinator
Julie is a Home educating Mum, Acupuncturist, coach and martial artist. Her passion for healing others has led her to study many different philosophies and disciplines alongside educating her two boys Archie and DJ Fred. She has been volunteering at HEFF as a first aider since 2017.
Chunky Merrick
Sound & Lighting Tech
Chunky ran a PA Hire company for over 16 years and has been providing sound and lighting equipment at HEFF since 2019. During the festival he can usually be found at the sound desk helping youngsters learn the tech and engineering the bands.
