Join the board of directors
Have you ever considered joining the board?
HEFF is run completely by volunteers from the community, and that includes the board of directors. Each director commits to a three year term and so some years there will be vacancies available. The directors are voted for at the AGM during the festival.
What do directors do?
The board of directors meet via a conference call about once a fortnight to discuss and plan the organisation of the festival. There are a lot of decisions to make to ensure the festival is legal, runs smoothly and is fun. Directors are responsible for making decisions about ticket pricing, event policies, accounting, advertising and how the festival should look as well as much more throughout the build up to the festival.
Between the meetings each director takes on some part of what needs doing next. Each task is assigned according to the skills and available time of the directors. Skills in areas like accounting, procurement, customer support, and of course event planning are useful, but not essential. Many board members learned their role while on the job, so sharing experience and asking questions is the norm.
If you think you’ve got what it takes and want to get stuck in, we’d love you to bring your enthusiasm and ideas to the board and become a part of the team that will make future festivals better than ever. Of course, not all HEFF volunteers are directors, so if you feel you have something to contribute, but don’t want to take on the full responsibility of a director, we would still love to hear from you.
