Team HEFF

Board of directors

HEFF is run by a volunteer board of directors who oversee the organisation of events and a large community of volunteers.

Mark Grief

Director

Hi, my name is Mark, I live in deepest Lincolnshire with my wife Wendy and twin girls, and I have worked as a civil servant for more than 35 years, the last 20 of which have been in a training environment. Along with Wendy, I co-ordinated the workshop schedule for HEFF between 2018 and 2023, also serving as a director from 2020 – 2023, so I have some experience of how things work in preparation for and during the festival. I would hope that I can bring new ideas to further enhance HEFF, both in terms of workshops and other elements. I am especially happy to see a youth committee now, so hopefully we can share our experience with them. I think it is important that HEFF continues to be innovative and believe that I can contribute to that ethos. I also feel that I can contribute to the governance of the company behind the festival and feel that we have assembled an excellent team in our aim to achieve fairness and safety for everyone who attends HEFF each year.

Director

I was home educated as a child, and became a founding director of HEFF because I wanted to make sure that when I had children of my own they could enjoy the same kind of festivals and camps that shaped much of my teens. Passing the torch of educational freedom and community down the line is a privilege and a pleasure – I hope you will enjoy HEFF and that some day your children’s children will too!

Wendy Lee

Director

Many of you will know me from my involvement with co-ordinating workshops for several years from 2018 to 2023. For those of you who do not, I am mother to home-educated twins and have been a nurse for more than 30 years. As my new role of Chief Executive for the company, my plan for HEFF 2025 is to continue the successes of previous festivals and establishing a home-ed community which will exist beyond the festival, especially among the younger generation. I am very pleased to see a Youth Committee incorporated into the organisation, and sincerely hope that some or all of them will take over the running of the festival in years to come, learning from experience they gain from others.

Louise Joslin

Louise Joslin

Director

I’m Louise – hypnotherapist and therapeutic coach. However, I spent years in the publishing industry within IT and management before retraining as a therapist and left publishing after my children were born. I have been running my NLP4Kids and therapeutic workshops since we first came to HEFF. As a family, we really appreciate the wide variety of opportunities that the festival provides for education, creativity and personal growth. I’m keen to nurture future HEFF leaders to ensure these opportunities are around for generations to come.

Along with the rest of the new IT team, I am now responsible for the IT aspect of the festival. Thankfully, we have had a lot of help and support from outgoing director Ed to help ease the transition, even after he had officially handed over the reins. I won’t deny it has been a steep learning curve but we are getting there.

Hi, I‘m Leigh. My wife and I have three children (15, 12 & 10) that we both home/world school. I served in the military for 17 years as a mechanical engineer and now work as a contract engineer, volunteering with community initiatives in my free time. I enjoy sport, including outdoor adventurous activities, my favourite being rock climbing, and working on personal projects. My family and I love HEFF and I am very happy to be granted this opportunity to be more involved. Looking forward to HEFF 2025!

Admin/PR

I’m Natan. Home-educated from the age of 12, I found the contrast with traditional schooling eye-opening, sparking my passion for the home education community. This year, after a few years away, I’ve returned to Heff to take on the roles of admin support and PR.

Annie-Rose

Admin/PR

My name is Annie-Rose, I was home-educated throughout my childhood and found the experience incredibly enriching. As an adult, I wanted to contribute to the home education community by both volunteering and sharing my experiences at Heff. This year, I have returned to Heff after a short hiatus to take on the role of Heff admin support and general PR support.
